Lucky Day Give-Away: (Not So) Sleepy Bunny and Sunshine Rainbow Plushie

Once again, it is your lucky day. Who knew this could happen on any old ordinary Thursday in the month of February? But, here we are and I have two little plushies just waiting to belong to two different, but oh-so-lucky Chez Beeper Bebe readers. The first is one of my Sleepyhead Bunnies--except, this one is not so sleepy, as you can see (I guess I shouldn't have given him that second espresso). The other is one of my wobegone Rainbow Sunshine Plushies looking for a good home after the whole corporate toy-making man debacle (although, technically, I guess it is a corporate toy-making woman debacle since the company in question is owned by a woman).

Whatever the case, these two little lovelies await two different readers. Now, take a deep breath and here are your instructions: Please leave a comment telling me the title of one of your favorite children's book and any other details you might want to share. And why, you ask? Because my curiosity has not lessened any since the last give-away and we are always looking for great new children's books around my house and I am certain you will come through with some tres magnifique recommendations.

You will need to leave your comment by the end of the day on Saturday, February 20th. I will announce the winners on Monday, February 22nd--so please be sure to check back here so that you can get in touch with me if you are the winner and then we can swap pleasantries and other critical mailing information so your new plush friend might find its way to its new happy home.

Bon chance, mes cheries. I eagerly await your replies.

I LOVE THE SUNSHINE RAINBOW PLUSHIE!!! It is so adorable and vastly superior to any mass-marketed ribbon toy out there!

I adore both of these cuties!! I am expecting my first baby in August and I'm sure my little one would be delighted with either of these! I'm no expert on children's books (not yet anyway!) but I bought "On the Night You Were Born" for a couple of my girlfriends and their babies and they loved it!

Ooohh... a giveaway, how can I resist? ;-)
My all-time favorite children story must be "Peter Pan". It is a classic for me! I've done many illustrations on the subject and you reminded me I should post them on my blog, eventually. :-)

Merci beaucoup! ^-^

My absolute all time favorite is Pippi Longstocking. I read it when I was 8 and I still enjoy reading through it again nowadays.

I just bought loads of ribbons yesterday to make a rainbow plushie and now I don't have to use them (maybe)!

hi!
you just reminded me that i really should start reading kids books again! i don't have any kids (yet) but its never to early to get books!
i'd say one of my faves has got to be alice in wonderland! Also the old classic, the hungry, hungry catepillar. love Eric Carle's illustrations.

Harold and the Purple Crayon- I like it because it reminds me that we can shape the world we live in but that home in bed is the safest place after adventures.

"Annie Bananie." My sister gave it to me when I was little and it's the first book each of her daughters read to me when they learned to read.

I think my favorite character is the Gorilla in "Goodnight Gorilla", so mischievous, just like my little one. Although I do love me some Ramona B Quimby. :)

My sister is having a baby and I know she'd love either one of those.

Fun fun fun giveaway.

One of my favorite children's stories of all time is Graeme Base's "Animalia," the drawings are fantastic and each of them holds a hidden surprise to look for. I cherished this book as a youngster and brought it in for a high school assignment. One of the boys, Willie, went through and circled the hidden surprise on each page with a red pen. I was furious. And I let him know.

Regardless, I can hardly wait until my little one is old enough to appreciate this fantastic book. Beeper seems about the right age :-)

we are currently loving oliver jeffers' books - "the incredible book eating boy" is a favourite at the moment. and it made mini-man like broccoli. hah!
the illustrations of all oliver jeffers books are fabulous, the stories clever, fantastic, cheeky, funny and endearing. without so many words.

So cute, love the polka dot fabric on that bunny. Thanks for the giveaway! One of my favorite (hard to choose just one) children's books is "I Can Fly" illustrated by the wonderful Mary Blaire. She's one of my favorites. If you don't know about her I think you'd really enjoy her use of color.

I can imagine my youngest cuddling up to the Sunshine Rainbow Plushie while we read our favorite book for bedtime; "I Love You Through and Through" by Bernadette Rossetti-Shustak. This one is geared towards boys (of which I have 2) and there is one called "How Do I Love You" geared towards girls.

Ok, the book that I love the most that we read to our little one is Gus Was a Mexican Ghost. It's one of a lot of Gus books and it just cracks us up. The humor is really awesome for adults and the stories aren't predictable. It's an old one, but you can find it on Amazon through various sellers for pretty cheap.

I love love the rainbow plushie! My favorite books to read to my daughters are the Sweet Pickle Books. They are from when I was a kid (in the 80s). There are 26 of them (one for each letter in the alphabet) and each one holds a life lesson. They are all good for that fact and the illustrations are cute! They are hard to find, but ebay has them. Definitely a must for all kids libraries!

Wonderful plushies! Thanks for the giveaway!

Just the one book? Impossible.'The Lamb Who Came to Dinner' by Steve Smallman and Joelle Dreidemy is funny and sweet (but not too sweet) and it's my husband's hands-down favourite. My favourites are the Knufflebunny books by Mo Willems (Gerald and Piggy also) and 'The Baby's Catalogue' by Janet and Alan Ahlberg. It was one of our first books when my daughter was born - no words but so much to look at and talk about and the illustrations are delightful. The people who gave it to us said they give it to all new parents and I can see why!

My son is 13 months, but his favorite book (at least I think it's his favorite. lol!) is "Ten Little Ladybugs" by Melanie Gerth. Sometimes I find him looking at it all by himself, turning the pages... it melts my heart! I think he likes the colorful pages.

Kate

P.S. I love all of your tutorials... I think I am going to make the alphabet plushies my next project!

The love plushies and they are both good reminders that spring will come again.

I am a Children's lit junkie but a few favorites to read to my boys are: anything Sandra Boynton, "Duck on a Bike" by David Shannon, the amazing pop up books by Matthew Reinhart...I could go on and on.

My three year old claims, "Jungle Book" (the pop up version by Matthew Reinhart) as his favorite book.

One of my favorites as a little girl was, "Madeline".

Did I mention I'm a children's lit junkie?!

Stephanie Rose said...

I love both of these, but the bunny makes me think of the "Velveteen Rabbit" which was a favorite book of mine when I was a child. My (almost) 4-year-old son LOVES to read. He can already read and it is something we enjoy doing together. One of my favorite books for him is Dr. Suess' "Oh The Places You'll Go". It's a great book about never giving up and thinking for yourself. We also enjoy reading "A Lot of Otters" by Barbara Helen Berger. It is a book about a curious little boy (little moonlet) who is lost from his mother (the moon) and is helped by the otters. It reminds me of an American Indian tale or old story that is passed down by mouth, not by written words. I love to call my son, "My little moonlet"; and he loves it as well.

My favorite kid's book: Caps for Sale. I just found my childhood copy and look forward to reading it someday with the little ones. If you asked 11 month-old Baby E. (who hopes to win a plushie!!!!) what his current favorite kid's book is, he would tell you it's the Little People Farm flap book. Not much help to your 5 year-old though. :)

The best children s book I have every read, and I feel as though I have read thousands, is Charlie by Diane Fox Downs. It, a Little Golden book, is now out of print. Steady yourself--- I just Google it to find out who the author is and I found two for sale. Asking price, both over $900. All I can say is it is a great book. A few years ago I found a copy for each of my children. I spent about $30. a copy. To think I bought our original for one dollar.
I love all your plushies, and am in awe of your talent.

I'd love to give the Sunshine Rainbow Plushie a new home, we love stickin' it to the (wo)man around here, lol!

And since we love books just as much I'm gonna give you not just one, but eight to check out.

The first seven are a series by Edward Eager, the first one is called Half Magic. (You can also get an omnibus of all seven called Edward Eager's Tales of Magic.) They're great chapter books for bedtime stories. I remember my Dad reading these and the Narnia stories to me and my sibs twenty years ago and I love them still.

The second is a book called Bad Times for Ghosts. http://www.amazon.com/Bad-Times-Ghosts-W-Wippersberg/dp/0152004149/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1266535106&sr=1-1
It's kinda hard to find but it is SO worth it. The story is hilarious and there are a bunch of fun activities scattered throughout the book, too. Super awesome.

There is no way I can choose one book. Here are a few picture books--all considered postmodern in that they break with conventional narrative and/or arrangement in some way. David Wiesner's Three Little Pigs or Tuesday are great (as are all of his books.) Jan Brett's books often have multiple story lines going in the side illustrations as in Berlioz the Bear. The Colors by Monique Felix, Time Flies by Eric Rohmann, Black and White by David Macauley (anything by Macauley), Istvan Banyai's books Zoom and The Other Side, This Book is Too Small by Anne Wouters --okay, I'll stop!

The fave in our house is titled "My Big Dog" (A Golden Classic) by Janet Stevens and Susan Stevens Crummel. We love it because of the crazy parallels we share with it...we had a Golden Retriever named Violet (the dog in the book is a Golden named Violet) and we also had a gray boy cat named Merlin (the gray cat in the book is named Merl). It's just too good to be true. We love it!

My 3.5 year old also LOVES Little House in the Big Woods, Little House on the Prairie, The Mouse and the Motorcycle (just started Runaway Ralph, not sure how popular the sequel is going to be), and Abels Island...
My 15mo baby girl would LOVE either of these toys...

Favorite children's book? There are so many! Several of my personal favorites have been mentioned already, so let's go with one that should appeal to your reptile-loving boy: Crictor, by Toni Ungerer. It's just so silly and endearing, the idea that a snake would make such a perfect pet for an old lady. :) And for honorable mention: the Little Bear books. They're so sweet. :)

We also love "We're going on a Bear Hunt"

Your stuff is so fun. I adore the bunny. I have a three yea old who is all about small bunnies. She would die!
One of my favorites, I read it to my 5 year old pre-k class today (in part), is Jenny and the Cat Club by Esther Averil. It was printed in '45 (I think) and is so wonderful. It is a collection of stories about a little black cat, Jenny Linsky, and her Cat Club adventures. A dear friend gave it to me as a baby gift. It might be best enjoyed by children 3-8. It's a big, chapter looking book, but is a collection of separate stories with the same characters. Ever so cute!!

Susanne said...

Love these plushies! I enjoy reading the classic "the Little Engine that Could" (with the original illustrations, of course) to my son. I have an old tattered hardcover copy from when I was a child that I adore. And you can't go wrong with anything written by (fellow Canadian) Robert Munsch. Love You Forever makes me cry every time I read it, even after all these years!

Hi Holly! I know I already purchased a rainbow plushie but I would love to enter the giveaway as we still know lots of babies that could use a rainbow plushie of their own! :)

At our house a couple favorites include: Iggy Peck Architect and Every Friday. Both books are great for boys (we have 3 boys, so I know good boy books!). Iggy Peck is hilarious and very clever with great illustrations, Every Friday is a sweet book about the bond of a daddy and his boy!

So. Pretty please pick us! I can already think of a great home for that rainbow plushie!! And I can't wait for the one I bought to get here for my own son!

Hi, (again)
Of course there is not only ONE favourite of mine but the first I read myself at the age of 6 was The Double Lottie by Eric Kästner. Maybe it is a bit girlie so for little beeper choose anything else from the same author who was born in 1899 and who's books are full of excitement and fun. ('Emil and the Detectives' or 'The 35th of May; Or, Conrad's Ride to the South Seas'. Both are GREAT.

I love both of these sweet plushies! In our house we are reading "Emeline at the Circus" by Marjorie Priceman EVERY night. Adorable plushies!

OK, it is very hard to pick a favorite but I'll just go with what my 10 month old son is loving right now. Who is a better judge than the babes? He is constantly playing with "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" by Eric Carle, his "Curious George Before and After" lift the flap book, and "Where is Baby's Belly Button" by Nina Katz (also a lift the flap book). For an older child I love "Over in the Meadow" by Ezra Keats. Soooooo beautiful and you can sing it to the kids and they can sing the response of each of the animals. Very fun.

Hi - I love your blog and keep meaning to make some of the lovely things....

For very young children anything by a wonderful husband and wife team - Janet and Alan Ahlberg (sadly Janet passed away but their daughter has also done some illustrations for her father's books)- their British and if you haven't come across them before you are in for a treat. My favourite (and it's difficult) is 'Each peach pear Plum' which is a lovely rhyming, repetitious book based on lots of familiar fairy stories eg Each peach, pear, plum, I spy Tom Thumb, Tom Thumb in the cupboard, I spy Mother Hubbard, Mother Hubbard in the cellar, I spy Cinderella' all accompanied by the most wonderful, incredibly detailed illustrations. 'Peepo' is also a wonderful book for wee ones - full of nostalgic 50s illustrations of Britain.

For older children by 8 year olds will stay up all night reading the Mr Gum Books - totally crazy stories, again by a British author Andy Stanton ( http://www.mrgum.co.uk/books.htm). Oh, and of course any Roald Dahl book.

Happy reading (there are so many more I could mention)

(A tiger comes for tea and eats all of Daddy's tea, all the tins in the cupboard, all daddy's beer and all the water in the taps etc). FABULOUS!!

I love the giveaways!!! My sisters and I loved The Fourteen Bears in Summer and Winter, it's a Deluxe Golden Book. We loved picking our favorites on each page. Unfortunately it's out of print, and pretty expensive even used. But I will find a copy to share with my kids, maybe you can too!

I know that your giveaway is over, but I think you should know about one of our favorite bedtime stories here at our house. My son (1) and I like to read a story called "Russell the Sheep." It's a story about how Russell can't fall asleep, so he decides to try counting things, and in his search for counting things nothing helps...until he tries counting sheep.
Caden also loves reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar. I quite like it as well.
